About The Abus MoDrop MIPS Helmet

The Abus MoDrop MIPS is a trail and all-mountain helmet built for riders who spend full days on singletrack. Its Multi-Shell In-Mould construction permanently bonds the outer shell to the EPS liner, creating a more rigid, durable structure than helmets where the shell simply wraps the foam. At 340g (Small) / 370g (Medium), it sits in the lighter half of the trail helmet category without sacrificing coverage or feature depth.

Six air inlets and eight air outlets move more air through the helmet than most trail lids at this price point, keeping the system efficient on long climbs. The height-adjustable visor deflects low branches on descent and — critically — positions in front of the face to reduce direct facial impact in a crash. MIPS adds a low-friction liner layer that allows a few millimeters of rotational movement on angled impacts, reducing rotational force transferred to the brain.

Who It's For

  • Trail and all-mountain riders who prioritize safety features without moving up to a full-face
  • Riders with a ponytail — the fit system and retention cage are specifically designed to accommodate one
  • Goggle users who need a consistent way to carry lenses when not in use
  • Riders who want future-proofing: QUIN-ready means fall detection can be added later without replacing the helmet
  • Consider a different helmet if you need multi-impact certification for enduro/DH racing, or require more aggressive head coverage geometry

What to Look For

  • Fit first: The Zoom Ace MTB dial adjusts both height and circumference — have it properly fitted, as a trail helmet that shifts on impact loses most of its protective advantage
  • Size carefully: Small covers 51–55cm; Medium covers 54–58cm — the overlap at 54–55cm means borderline heads should try both before deciding
  • Goggle compatibility: GoggFit is useful but specific to the MoDrop's channel design — confirm your goggles work with it before relying on it

Key Features

Multi-Shell In-Mould with moulded lower shell. The permanent bond between outer shell and EPS creates consistent impact response across the helmet's surface. The moulded lower shell adds durability at the helmet's most vulnerable edge — useful for riders who drop or rack helmets regularly.

Zoom Ace MTB retention system. Height adjustment matters on a trail helmet because riders shift head position more than road riders. Getting the retention cage at the right vertical position prevents the helmet from pitching forward on steep descents, where fit failure is most likely.

TriVider webbing. The laterally adjustable, non-slip cheek strap splitters keep the Y-junction positioned consistently at the ear — a small detail that makes a real difference in comfort over long rides.

GoggFit goggle dock. A dedicated channel on the rear of the helmet holds goggles securely when pushed back, preventing the bounce and twist that happens when goggles rest on the helmet without retention.

QUIN ready. The chip slot accepts Abus's separately sold QUIN crash detection module, which can notify emergency contacts after a detected impact. The upgrade doesn't require purchasing a new helmet.

Rider Intent Summary

  • Biggest strengths: Strong ventilation for the coverage level, thoughtful fit system with height adjustment, MIPS rotational protection, and purpose-built goggle retention
  • Tradeoffs: Not multi-impact rated; trail-geometry coverage is appropriate for most riding but not aggressive enduro or DH profiles
  • What makes it different: The combination of QUIN-readiness, GoggFit, and a ponytail-optimized fit system in a single trail helmet is uncommon at this price point

Victory's Take

We stock the MoDrop MIPS because it solves the real annoyances trail riders bring up — goggles that won't stay put, fit systems that shift on steep terrain, and helmets that don't work with a ponytail. It's a well-considered helmet, not just a well-marketed one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
