About The Assos R Winter Cycling Leg Warmers P1

The Assos R Winter Leg Warmers are a full-length warmer engineered for the 39–52°F range — the window that covers most serious cold-weather riding from late fall through early spring. The updated textile is specifically designed to retain warmth when wet, addressing the core failure point of standard leg warmers: thermal performance that degrades as conditions deteriorate. The 76% polyamide / 24% elastane construction maintains a racing, second-skin fit throughout the ride — no bunching at the knee and predictable layering geometry when worn under shells.

The design sits at a deliberate intersection: enough insulation (rated 4/5) to handle sustained cold, but with breathability also rated 4/5 — making these a genuine three-season piece rather than a dedicated winter slab. At 162g, they pack into a jersey pocket when temperatures climb mid-ride. Water-repellency handles light wet conditions while keeping moisture transfer moving from the inside out; this is not a fully waterproof warmer, and it's not trying to be.

Who It's For

  • Riders training or racing in 39–52°F temperatures who need a warmer they can start with and stow if conditions improve
  • Road and criterium racers who require a tight, non-bunching fit that won't compromise movement under bib shorts
  • Cyclists who layer warmers under a rain or wind shell in sustained wet conditions
  • Riders who prioritize thermoregulation and breathability over maximum wind blocking

Consider a different option if: you ride primarily in sustained sub-40°F conditions and need full wind protection, or if you run most of your cold-weather miles at lower intensity where breathability matters less than insulation mass.

What to Look For

  • Fit compatibility with your bib shorts: The racing fit assumes a snug silhouette. Confirm your bib short gripper sits cleanly above the warmer's hem under movement — particularly relevant if you're sizing between options.
  • Standalone vs. layered use: At windproof 2/5, these aren't a wind-blocking solution on their own. Riders with exposed climbs or descents in the forecast should plan to shell over them.
  • Temperature range realism: The 39–52°F rating reflects a meaningful design tradeoff — the high breathability that makes these usable at 52°F is the same property that limits their floor. Know which end of that range you spend most time in.

Key Features

Upgraded Thermal Textile The 76% PA / 24% EA composition is updated from prior iterations to retain warmth when wet — the condition where most leg warmers fall short. Insulation is rated 4/5, placing these above basic cool-weather warmers without the bulk that limits mobility or packs poorly.

Breathability and Thermoregulation A 4/5 breathability rating for a winter-rated warmer is intentional. These are built around a riding intensity of 4/5 — calibrated for the metabolic output of road riding and racing, not casual paced efforts. On hard climbs or sustained tempo, heat and moisture have somewhere to go.

Packability At 162g, the R Winter Leg Warmers compress into a jersey pocket. The low-volume second-skin construction makes this practical rather than theoretical — relevant for variable-condition days where you start cold and warm up after the first hour.

PFAS-Free Water Repellency Water repellency is achieved without PFAS chemistry. The textiles carry OEKO-TEX certification, relevant for riders with skin sensitivity concerns or sustainability priorities.

Layering Geometry The second-skin fit is engineered to sit cleanly beneath wind and rain shells, adding insulation without creating pressure points or reducing leg mobility under a shell's paneling. This is the explicit use case for the low-volume construction.

Rider Intent Summary

  • Biggest strengths: Warmth retention in wet conditions, high breathability for the insulation level, and genuine jersey-pocket packability at 162g
  • Tradeoffs: Windproof rating of 2/5 means shell pairing is often necessary below 40°F; not suited to adventure or low-intensity riding where breathability is less of a priority
  • What makes it different: The thermal textile upgrade specifically targets wet-condition performance — the scenario where most leg warmers in this category lose their effectiveness

Victory's Take

At Victory Bicycle Studio, we stock the Assos R Winter Leg Warmers because they solve the right problem for riders in variable late-fall and early-spring conditions: enough warmth to start, enough breathability to finish hard, and light enough to pocket when the road dries out.

What you get

  • PFAS-Free Water Repellency

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
