About The Assos Ultraz Winter Cycling Gloves P1

The Assos Ultraz Winter Cycling Gloves P1 are built for riding in the most severe cold conditions — rated for temperatures between 17.6°F and 37.4°F, they sit at the top of the Assos winter glove lineup with maximum insulation and windproof ratings. The defining feature is a lobster-glove construction that groups three fingers inside a shared outer shell sleeve, with each finger individually wrapped in its own internal sleeve. The result is three discrete microclimates nested inside a larger one — a layered approach to heat retention that a single-finger or standard mitten design cannot replicate.

The outer shell and thermoregulating lining are both more protective than those found on the standard Assos Winter Gloves P1, though Assos carries over the high-grip palm and universal padding structure from that model. At 130 grams, the glove balances substantial insulation with reasonable weight for extended winter road riding. The construction is OEKO-TEX certified and PFAS-free.

Who It's For

  • Riders who regularly train or race in sub-freezing temperatures and won't cut rides short because of cold
  • Endurance-focused cyclists doing long winter base miles where sustained warmth matters more than dexterity
  • Road and gravel riders in cold, dry to lightly wet conditions (rated waterproof 3/5 — not suited for sustained rain)
  • Riders already familiar with the standard Assos Winter Gloves P1 who need a step up in protection

Consider a different glove if: you ride primarily in wet winter conditions, need high tactile dexterity for frequent shifting or technical handling, or ride at higher intensities where moisture management and breathability are priorities (rated breathability 2/5, quick-drying 2/5).

What to Look For

  • Lobster vs. standard finger construction: The lobster design trades per-finger dexterity for significantly better heat retention. If you need to reach brake levers or shifters frequently, factor that into your assessment.
  • Temperature range match: These gloves are designed for 17.6–37.4°F. If your riding spans a wider range or regularly sits above 40°F, a more versatile mid-weight winter glove will serve you better across more days.
  • Waterproofing vs. insulation: The 3/5 waterproof rating handles brief moisture and light precipitation — it is not a waterproof barrier glove. Riders in consistently wet conditions should look at purpose-built waterproof options.

Key Features

Lobster-Glove Shell with Internal Finger Sleeves The Ultraz P1's nested microclimate system — three fingers in one outer shell, each wrapped in its own interior sleeve — creates layered dead-air insulation that is structurally more effective at retaining heat than conventional multi-finger construction. This is the feature that separates the Ultraz from the standard Winter Gloves P1.

Thermoregulating Lining and Upgraded Outer Shell Both the lining and outer textile are upgraded relative to the standard Winter Gloves P1, providing higher baseline insulation (rated 5/5) and full windproof performance (5/5). The all-polyester construction (top and bottom layers) supports the insulation structure while keeping weight to 130 grams.

High-Grip Palm and Universal Padding The palm uses a 50/50 polyamide/polyurethane touch insert for grip and bar feel, carried over from the standard Winter Gloves P1. The universal padding structure is the same across both models — riders moving up from that glove will find bar contact and control feel familiar.

Touchscreen-Compatible Thumb Insert The thumb insert (65% rubber / 35% polyester) is designed for touchscreen compatibility, so riders can interact with a cycling computer or phone without removing the glove.

OEKO-TEX Certified, PFAS-Free Materials All textiles are OEKO-TEX certified and produced without PFAS chemistry, consistent with Assos's current sustainability standards.

Rider Intent Summary

  • Biggest strengths: Maximum insulation for sub-freezing rides; the nested lobster construction creates meaningfully better heat retention than standard winter gloves; windproof at 5/5
  • Tradeoffs: Lower breathability and quick-drying performance make these less suited to high-intensity efforts or wet riding; the lobster design reduces per-finger dexterity
  • What makes it different: The dual-sleeve lobster construction — three individual finger microclimates inside a shared outer shell — is specific to the Ultraz line and not found on the standard Winter Gloves P1

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
