About The Black Inc 48/58 Carbon Aero Tubeless Ready Clincher Road Bike Wheelset
The Black Inc 48|58 is a carbon aero disc-brake road wheelset that runs a 48mm-deep front rim with a 58mm-deep rear rim. Black Inc developed it alongside the Factor OSTRO VAM aero road bike. The front rim is shallower so the bike stays more stable in crosswinds and gusty conditions. The deeper rear rim adds aero depth where wind has less effect on steering. Most aero wheelsets use the same depth front and rear, so this split is the main thing that sets the 48|58 apart.
The rims measure 23mm internal and 29mm external and use a mini-bead hook profile built for 28mm tubeless or clincher tires. The set is hand-built with 20 Black Inc straight-pull carbon aero spokes, high-flange HU-08 alloy hubs and ceramic bearings. Claimed weight is 1290g, which excludes tubeless tape and certain metal parts. It suits riders who want a deep, light aero wheelset for fast road riding, group rides and racing, especially where the wind is unpredictable.
Who It’s For
-
Road riders and racers who want aero depth without heavy steering in crosswinds
-
Factor OSTRO VAM owners, or riders on other 12mm thru-axle disc aero road bikes
-
Riders already on 28mm or wider tires
-
Consider a different wheelset if you run tires narrower than 28mm, ride gravel or unpaved surfaces (the rim is rated ASTM Level 1), or need a freehub other than SRAM XDR
What to Look For
-
Freehub compatibility: The listed freehub is SRAM XDR. If your bike runs Shimano or Campagnolo, confirm compatibility with us before ordering.
-
Tire size: 28mm is both the recommended and the minimum tire size. Check that your frame has clearance for it.
-
Frame and brake standard: The hubs are 100mm front / 142mm rear with 12mm thru-axles and Center Lock disc rotor mounts.
Key Features
Different depths front and rear. The 48mm front rim gives the wind less surface to push against, so the front end stays steadier at all yaw angles. The 58mm rear carries the extra depth, where crosswinds have less effect on handling. For riders who often face gusty conditions, this split is the main reason to choose the 48|58.
Rim built around 28mm tires. The 23mm internal width and mini-bead hook are sized for 28mm tubeless or clincher tires, so you can run either setup. The rims are high-modulus carbon (T-700/T-800/T-1100) with a UD glossy clearcoat and water-transfer decals.
Carbon spokes and high-flange hubs. The wheels use 20 straight-pull carbon aero spokes laced 2x/2x to HU-08 high-flange alloy hubs, with oversize internal alloy nipples. Black Inc chose this build to keep weight low while staying durable.
Ceramic bearings and Center Lock rotors. Both hubs use ceramic bearings and run 12mm thru-axles, the current standard for disc road frames.
Hand-built and machine-checked. Every wheel is built by hand and inspected with electronic equipment before shipping. Tubeless valves, tubeless tape, Presta valve extensions and a valve core tool are included, so it’s ready to set up tubeless out of the box.
Rider Intent Summary
-
Biggest strengths: Steadier handling in crosswinds thanks to the 48/58 split, a 1290g claimed weight, carbon spokes and ceramic bearings
-
Tradeoffs: 28mm minimum tire size, listed freehub compatibility is SRAM XDR only, and the rims are rated for paved road use
-
What makes it different: The rear rim is 10mm deeper than the front, a pairing developed for the Factor OSTRO VAM
Victory’s Take
At Victory Bicycle Studio, we recommend the 48|58 to riders who want deep aero wheels but don’t want to fight the bars in gusty conditions. Before ordering, check that your bike uses an XDR freehub and has room for 28mm tires.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
