About The SRAM Apex 1 Wide 12-Speed 1x 40T DUB Crankset
The SRAM Apex 1 Wide is a 12-speed single-ring crankset with a 40T direct-mount X-SYNC ring on a SRAM DUB spindle. Its wide chainline makes room for bigger tires, which is why it shows up on gravel and adventure bikes as well as mountain builds.
Arms are aluminum and come in 160, 165, 170, 172.5 and 175mm, so riders across a broad size range can get the right length. SRAM lists compatibility with 135mm, 142mm and Boost rear spacing. The DUB bottom bracket is sold separately.
Who It's For
- Gravel and adventure riders running SRAM 12-speed 1x with wide tires
- Mountain riders on 135, 142 or Boost frames who want a simple aluminum 1x crank
- Shorter riders who need a 160mm or 165mm option
- Consider a different crank if your frame uses a GXP or non-DUB bottom bracket, or you need a 2x setup
What to Look For
- Spindle interface: SRAM DUB — pair with a DUB bottom bracket for your frame (sold separately).
- Rear spacing: SRAM lists 135mm, 142mm and Boost compatibility; the wide chainline is meant for big gravel tires.
- Crank length: choose from 160, 165, 170, 172.5 or 175mm; all use the 40T ring.
Key Features
Aluminum arms. Aluminum keeps the crank durable and affordable for riders who'd rather spend on tires or wheels.
DUB spindle. SRAM describes a longer DUB spindle that works with both road and MTB width bottom bracket standards, which broadens frame compatibility across brands.
Direct-mount 40T X-SYNC ring. The aluminum ring mounts directly to the crank, and X-SYNC's wide-tooth/narrow-tooth profile manages the chain without a front derailleur.
Wide chainline. Designed to clear the biggest gravel tires, with 135, 142 and Boost rear spacing listed as compatible.
Five lengths, black. 160 to 175mm with 9/16" pedal threads.
Rider Intent Summary
- Biggest strengths: Wide chainline for tire clearance, DUB fitment across frame widths, and five arm lengths.
- Tradeoffs: Aluminum arms are heavier than carbon; 12-speed 1x only; bottom bracket extra.
- What makes it different: It's SRAM's wide-chainline Apex 1x crank that bridges gravel and mountain frames.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
