About The Trek Starvos WaveCel Road Bike Helmet
The Trek Starvos WaveCel is a road-compatible cycling helmet built around WaveCel, Trek's proprietary collapsible cellular liner technology designed to improve protection against cycling-related head injuries. Unlike conventional EPS foam helmets, the WaveCel structure is engineered to flex, crumple, and glide under impact — addressing both linear and rotational forces that foam alone cannot. It sits at an accessible price point within Trek's WaveCel lineup, making the technology available to riders who don't need a top-tier race helmet.
Available in five sizes (XS through XL, covering 50–66cm head circumferences), the Starvos WaveCel pairs its liner with a Headmaster II fit system, washable moisture-wicking pads, and Trek's Crash Replacement Guarantee — a free helmet replacement within the first year following a crash. CPSC certified for riders age 5 and over, it covers road, fitness, and commuter riding without the weight or ventilation demands of performance-focused lids.
Who It's For
- Recreational and fitness road riders upgrading from a basic or entry-level helmet
- Commuters who want verified safety technology without a premium price
- New cyclists whose partners or coaches are prioritizing protection over performance specs
- Riders on the size extremes — the XS–XL range covers 50–66cm, broader than many helmets
Consider a different helmet if you're racing or doing high-volume training where weight (the medium is 335g) and ventilation efficiency are performance priorities.
What to Look For
- Fit. The Headmaster II allows one-handed micro-adjustment, but helmet fit is personal. Measure your head circumference before choosing a size — the five-size range is wide, and an accurate fit matters for both comfort and protection.
- Intended use. The Starvos WaveCel is CPSC certified for road and recreational cycling for riders age 5 and over. It is not rated for mountain biking or BMX disciplines.
- Technology vs. tradeoff. WaveCel is a meaningfully different liner from standard EPS foam. If protection is your first priority and you're not chasing grams, this helmet makes that tradeoff clearly in your favor.
Key Features
WaveCel liner technology. The collapsible cellular structure lining the helmet's interior is designed to flex and absorb impact energy in ways traditional foam cannot. Trek developed WaveCel as a Trek-exclusive technology intended to disrupt the safety standards the cycling industry had held for over 30 years — it's the defining reason to choose this helmet over a conventionally constructed alternative at the same price.
Headmaster II fit system. The rear-dial retention system provides one-handed micro-adjustment for a secure, personalized fit across a range of head shapes. A properly fitted helmet stays in the correct position on impact — fit quality is a direct safety variable, not just a comfort one.
LockDown strap dividers. Integrated dividers keep cheek straps organized and correctly positioned, reducing the minor friction that causes riders to skip proper strap adjustment.
Washable moisture-wicking pads. Removable, machine-washable pads extend helmet hygiene and usable life — particularly relevant for commuters and frequent riders who log regular miles on a single helmet.
Crash Replacement Guarantee. Trek provides a free replacement within the first year following a crash. For a helmet worn daily or by a new rider, this is a meaningful ownership benefit.
Rider Intent Summary
- Biggest strengths: WaveCel protection technology at an accessible price; broad size range (XS–XL); backed by a one-year crash replacement guarantee
- Tradeoffs: At 335g (medium), heavier than performance or race-oriented helmets; ventilation specification not published
- What makes it different: WaveCel is Trek-exclusive — no other brand offers this cellular liner technology at this price tier

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order. If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
