About The Zipp 303 Carbon XPLR S Front Bicycle Wheel
The Zipp 303 XPLR S is a carbon gravel wheel built for riders who want Zipp-grade engineering without the cost of a flagship wheelset. Designed from the ground up for gravel-specific demands, it pairs a 32mm internal width, 54mm deep UD carbon hookless rim with Zipp's Total System Efficiency framework — an approach that optimizes the complete wheel-and-tire system rather than the rim in isolation.
The wide rim profile increases air volume, allowing riders to run tire pressures well under 30 psi (max 50 psi) without instability or sidewall squirm. At lower pressures, the 303 XPLR S absorbs surface vibration, improves cornering grip, and maintains traction on loose climbs. The 54mm depth also creates a seamless aerodynamic transition with gravel tires, producing aero efficiency that a shallower or narrower rim simply can't match on gravel. Mounted on a 76 series hub with Center-Lock disc interface, with CX-Sprint spokes and brass nipples, it's tubeless-ready and sized for 700c / 12x100mm thru-axle forks.
Who It's For
- Gravel riders seeking a genuine carbon wheel upgrade at a more accessible price point
- Tubeless riders who want the ability to run low pressures on technical or high-mileage routes
- Cyclists who prioritize mixed-surface versatility and want a rim tuned specifically for gravel tire aerodynamics
- Not ideal for riders who need road-tire compatibility or pressures above 50 psi, or those committed to tires outside Zipp's approved list — the hookless construction limits tire selection
What to Look For
- Axle and brake standard: confirm your fork accepts a 12x100mm thru-axle and a Center-Lock disc rotor before purchasing — this wheel does not fit Quick Release or 6-bolt setups
- Tire compatibility: hookless rims require Zipp-approved tires and enforce a strict 50 psi maximum — verify your preferred tire is on Zipp's approved list before committing
- Rim width fit: the 32mm internal width is optimized for wider gravel tires; riders on narrower setups may not realize the full aero or pressure benefit
Key Features
UD Carbon Hookless Rim — 32mm Internal, 54mm Deep The hookless construction and wide profile work together to support high-volume gravel tires at operating pressures as low as sub-30 psi. Running lower pressure reduces vibration on rough surfaces and improves grip in corners without the instability that comes from underinflating a narrower rim. The 54mm depth then blends aerodynamically with the wider tire profile — a combination tuned for gravel, not borrowed from a road wheel.
Total System Efficiency Zipp applies Total System Efficiency specifically to gravel on the 303 XPLR S, meaning the rim shape, depth, and width are matched to gravel tire profiles rather than optimized for road tires and compromised at wider widths. The result is aero efficiency that scales with the tires you're actually running off-road.
76 Series Hub and Build Quality The 76 series hub uses stainless steel cartridge bearings and a Center-Lock disc interface. CX-Sprint spokes with brass nipples are selected for tension retention on rough terrain — a practical choice for riders putting consistent miles on variable surfaces where wheel trueness matters.
Rider Intent Summary
- Biggest strengths: Carbon construction, wide-rim low-pressure capability (sub-30 psi), and gravel-tuned aero at a price below Zipp's flagship gravel lineup
- Tradeoffs: Hookless rim restricts tire selection to Zipp-approved options; 50 psi ceiling rules out high-pressure road use on this wheel
- What makes it different: The 32mm internal / 54mm deep profile is engineered specifically for gravel tire aerodynamics — not a road wheel adapted for dirt
Victory's Take
At Victory Bicycle Studio, we recommend the 303 XPLR S to gravel riders ready to move into carbon without the flagship price — the rim geometry and Total System Efficiency tuning are the real story here. Sort out your tire compatibility first; once that's confirmed, this is a straightforward upgrade decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order. If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
