Saddle bags mount under the seat and carry the essentials for fixing a flat or handling a minor mechanical on the road — tubes, a multi-tool, tire levers, and a CO2 inflator or hand pump.
Size is the main decision: a small bag holds a tube and the basics; a larger bag has room for a full toolkit, extra nutrition, or a rain layer on longer rides. Mount compatibility with your seatpost and saddle rails matters, particularly on carbon components where clamp pressure needs to be managed carefully. Riders on aero bikes with integrated seatposts may need a frame bag or top tube bag instead.
