About The Abus CliffHanger MIPS Helmet
The Abus CliffHanger MIPS is a purpose-built trail and enduro helmet that prioritizes oblique-impact protection without sacrificing ventilation or adjustability. Its three-part outer shell is foamed directly into the EPS liner through Multi-Shell In-Mould construction, creating a single rigid structure that's lighter and more durable than helmets with glued or press-fit shells. Inside, the ActiCage structural reinforcement adds backbone to the EPS without adding meaningful weight — a design choice that pays off on the kind of high-speed, technical terrain where a helmet needs to absorb more than a single clean hit.
Where the CliffHanger separates itself from entry-level MIPS helmets is in the details that matter for real trail riding: a FidLock magnetic buckle that snaps shut one-handed even with gloves on, a GoggFit retention clip that keeps your goggles parked on the helmet when you don't need them, and the Zoom Ace MTB adjustment system, which is height-adjustable — not just circumference-adjustable — so the dial actually brings the helmet down onto your head rather than just cinching it. The result is a stable fit across a range of riding positions, from technical climbs to aggressive descents.
Who It's For
- Trail and all-mountain riders who spend time on demanding, technical terrain
- Riders who wear goggles and want a clean, secure way to store them while pedaling
- Ponytail wearers who struggle to find helmets that fit comfortably
- Anyone who wants MIPS protection with a more refined fit system than budget trail lids offer
- Consider a different helmet if you need a full-face or if you're specifically seeking a multi-impact-rated lid for bike park or DH use — the CliffHanger is CPSC-certified for single-impact use
What to Look For
- Fit and sizing: The CliffHanger runs in three sizes — Small (51–54 cm), Medium (54–58 cm), and Large (57–61 cm). Use a soft tape measure at the widest point of your head before choosing a size; the Zoom Ace MTB system fine-tunes fit but doesn't bridge a half-size gap.
- Ventilation vs. protection tradeoff: Eight inlets and six outlets place this helmet toward the ventilated end of the trail-helmet spectrum. If you're primarily a bike park or shuttle rider who values maximum coverage, a helmet with more shell coverage may suit you better.
- QUIN compatibility: The CliffHanger is QUIN-ready, meaning it accepts the separately purchased QUIN chip for automatic fall detection. Worth factoring in if you ride solo frequently.
Key Features
MIPS and ActiCage protection system. The MIPS liner allows the helmet to rotate slightly relative to your head during an oblique impact — the most common type in real crashes — which can reduce rotational energy transfer to the brain by up to 40 percent. Paired with ActiCage, an internal reinforcement structure embedded in the EPS, the shell holds its shape under load rather than cracking in ways that compromise protection.
Multi-Shell In-Mould construction. The three-part outer shell is fused with the EPS during manufacturing, not applied after the fact. This produces a helmet that's meaningfully lighter than helmets with separate glued shells — Small weighs 390g, Medium 410g, Large 440g — while the moulded lower shell adds durability where helmets typically show wear first.
Zoom Ace MTB fit system and TriVider straps. Unlike standard dial systems that only adjust circumference, the Zoom Ace MTB moves the retention cage up and down so you can position it correctly at the back of your skull regardless of head shape. The laterally adjustable TriVider strap divider keeps the ear straps from migrating, which matters on rough terrain where vibration tends to pull strap geometry out of position.
FidLock magnetic buckle. The magnetic self-aligning buckle closes securely with one hand and opens by squeezing — it works reliably with gloves and in cold weather, where standard side-release buckles require removing a glove or looking down.
GoggFit and height-adjustable visor. The GoggFit clip secures your goggles to the back of the helmet when you push them up, preventing them from sliding off on the way up a climb. The visor adjusts in height to clear your goggles' field of view when you pull them down.
Rider Intent Summary
- Biggest strengths: Well-executed fit system with height-adjustable retention, legitimate MIPS protection, excellent ventilation for a trail helmet, and trail-specific details like GoggFit and FidLock
- Tradeoffs: CPSC single-impact rated only (not multi-impact); QUIN fall detection is a separate purchase; three colors available
- What makes it different: The Zoom Ace MTB height-adjustable retention paired with GoggFit goggle integration makes this a more complete trail-riding package than most helmets at the price point
Victory's Take
We recommend the CliffHanger MIPS to riders who've outgrown a basic trail helmet and want a fit system and protection package that holds up on the kind of rides where those details actually get tested. At Victory Bicycle Studio, it fits a broad range of head shapes well out of the box, which makes it one of the easier helmets to size correctly on the first try.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.
