About The Giant SLR 2 36 Disc Carbon Road Wheelset
Giant's SLR 2 36 Disc Carbon Road Wheelset is a 36mm carbon hookless clincher wheelset for disc-brake road bikes, at 1535g per pair (with Shimano freehub). It's built for climbing, long mountain days and daily training on mixed terrain. For many riders it's the first carbon wheel upgrade from heavier stock wheels.
The SLR 2 36 Disc pairs a 36mm rim depth with a 22.4mm inner width, so it suits the wider tires most road riders now use. The 36mm profile is shallow enough to stay stable in variable crosswinds, which matters on exposed descents and ridgelines. Giant's optimized carbon layup puts high tensile strength fiber where the wheel needs stiffness, saving weight elsewhere. With a 285 lb / 129 kg system weight limit and a 2-year warranty, it's built for regular training, not only race days.
Who It's For
-
Riders upgrading a disc-brake road bike from stock alloy wheels to a lighter carbon wheelset
-
Climbers and riders who do long mountain rides where wheel weight matters
-
Daily trainers who want one carbon wheelset for variable terrain and mixed conditions
-
Riders running wider, higher-volume road tires
-
Consider a different wheel if you want a deep-section aero rim for flat, fast courses, or if your bike uses rim brakes or quick-release axles
What to Look For
-
Axle and rotor fit: The wheels need 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axles and Centerlock disc rotors. Check your frame, fork and rotors before ordering.
-
Drivetrain compatibility: The hub works with Shimano 11-speed, SRAM XDR 12-speed and Campagnolo freehub standards. Confirm you have the right freehub body for your groupset.
-
Hookless tire choice: Use tires that are approved for hookless rims, and follow the tire and rim maker's pressure guidance. Tubeless is the intended setup.
Key Features
The hookless carbon rim is the core of this wheelset. Removing the hook lets Giant run a wider inner width without adding weight, and Giant says it also improves durability. The 22.4mm internal width (ETRTO 622-22) gives wider tires a better-supported profile, which helps cornering confidence and lets you run lower pressures on rough roads.
The 36mm depth is a middle-ground profile. It's deep enough to reduce weight versus taller rims, and Giant designed it for stability in gusty, changing wind. That makes it a practical everyday depth rather than one tuned for a single type of course.
The wheels come ready for tubeless. The Giant Tubeless System rim tape and valve kit are included, so you can set up tubeless out of the box without buying extra parts.
The hubs and spokes are made for durability and easy service. Giant alloy hubs run on precision sealed cartridge bearings. The rear uses a 3-pawl, 30-tooth driver, a simple design that's easy to maintain. Both wheels are laced 24 spokes front and rear with SAPIM Sprint spokes and alloy nipples, which balances weight with dependable spoke tension for regular training.
Rider Intent Summary
-
Biggest strengths: Light 1535g carbon wheelset, wide 22.4mm internal rim, tubeless kit included, and a 285 lb rider-plus-bike limit
-
Tradeoffs: Hookless rims limit you to approved tires, and the 36mm profile is not a deep aero rim for flat-terrain speed
-
What makes it different: A wide hookless carbon rim at a moderate 36mm depth, built for both climbing and daily training rather than racing alone
Victory's Take
At Victory Bicycle Studio, we think the SLR 2 36 Disc is one of the most sensible first carbon upgrades for a disc road bike: light enough to notice on the climbs, and durable enough to ride every day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.
