About The Trek 1120 Frameset
The Trek 1120 Frameset is a purpose-built bikepacking platform constructed from Alpha Platinum Aluminum — now made with low-emission, renewable-energy aluminum — designed to carry serious loads across serious terrain. With horizontal sliding dropouts, 29+ tire clearance, internal routing for both derailleur and dropper post, and a proprietary rack mount system, this is a frame built from the ground up for multi-day backcountry expeditions.
The 1120's Boost148 thru-axle rear end and tapered head tube give it trail-bike handling even when unloaded, and the sliding dropouts allow easy singlespeed conversion — a practical failsafe when you're days from civilization. Geometry runs on the longer, more stable side, with a 70.3° head angle and 116.6mm wheelbase (XL) that tracks confidently with weight on board.
Who It's For
- Riders planning multi-day backcountry bikepacking routes requiring high gear capacity
- Adventure cyclists who want a frame that can run 29+ tires for added flotation and volume
- Builders who want singlespeed simplicity as a backup option on remote routes
- Not ideal for: weight-weenie XC builds, riders who don't need rack or load-carrying infrastructure
What to Look For
- Fork compatibility: Frame-only — you'll need to source a fork; spec a rigid or suspension fork rated for 29+ clearance and load-carrying mounts if matching the frame's intent
- Rack system: The 1120 uses Trek's proprietary rack mount system; the 1120 rack and harness are sold separately and designed specifically for this frame
- Drivetrain: Sliding dropouts support singlespeed or geared setups; plan your chainline accordingly
- Headset: FSA Integrated with 1-1/8" top and 1.5" bottom — tapered steerer forks required
Key Features
Frame — Alpha Platinum Aluminum: Built with Trek's low-emission aluminum, this is a stout, trail-tested construction with a tapered head tube, internal cable and dropper routing, and the structural integrity needed to handle loaded touring. Horizontal sliding dropouts add geometry tunability and singlespeed versatility.
Compatibility — Boost148 / 29+: The rear end runs 148mm Boost spacing with a 12mm thru axle, and the frame is sized for 29+ tires. Plan wheels and drivetrain around these specs — standard 142mm hubs will not fit.
Routing & Mounts: Internal derailleur and dropper post routing keeps lines clean and protected. Proprietary rack mounts front and rear support Trek's 1120 rack system, which handles 8L rear bags and additional front loads. Additional accessory mounts are spread throughout the frame for cages, bags, and gear.
Geometry — Expedition-biased: The 70.3° head angle and longer wheelbase prioritize straight-line stability and load management over quick handling — the right tradeoff for a loaded expedition bike.
Rider Intent Summary
- Biggest strengths: Unmatched load-carrying infrastructure, 29+ tire clearance, singlespeed convertibility, trail-bike handling when unloaded
- Tradeoffs: Frame-only purchase requires sourcing fork separately; proprietary rack system means aftermarket options are limited; not optimized for performance XC or road use
- What makes it different: The horizontal sliding dropout and integrated rack mount system are rare at any price — this is a complete bikepacking platform, not just a frame with bottle mounts bolted on

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free shipping?
We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.
How much does shipping cost?
For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!
How can I track my order?
When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order. If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
