About The Trek Charge WaveCel Commuter E-Bike Helmet

The Trek Charge WaveCel Commuter Helmet is built for riders who want serious head protection without sacrificing everyday wearability. Its defining feature is WaveCel technology — a collapsible cellular structure that absorbs both linear impacts and rotational energy, which traditional EPS foam helmets are not designed to address. Unlike most commuter helmets that prioritize aesthetics at the cost of protection, the Charge pairs WaveCel with a clean, urban profile that works on or off the bike.

This helmet is also NTA 8776 certified and approved for S-EPAC use, meaning it meets the safety standard required for e-bikes and speed pedelecs — a distinction most commuter helmets don't carry. For riders logging regular miles on an e-bike or in mixed urban traffic, that certification matters.

Who It's For

  • Commuters and urban riders who want e-bike-rated protection in a helmet they'd actually wear every day
  • Riders who prioritize one-handed adjustability and fast helmet transitions — locking, café stops, multi-modal commutes
  • E-bike riders (including S-EPAC/speed pedelec users) who need NTA 8776-certified protection
  • Bontrager light users who want seamless rear-light integration via the Blendr mount

Consider a different helmet if you're looking for a lightweight road or trail performance helmet — the Charge is purpose-built for commuting and urban riding, not spirited riding or technical terrain.

What to Look For

  • Fit and sizing: The BOA® dial system allows precise micro-adjustment, but start with the right size shell. The Charge runs S (51–57cm), M (54–60cm), and L (58–63cm) — measure your head circumference before ordering.
  • E-bike or standard bicycle use: If you're riding an S-EPAC or speed pedelec, the NTA 8776 certification is a meaningful safety differentiator; standard bicycle riders still benefit from WaveCel's impact performance, but the certification may influence your choice.
  • Lighting setup: If you're planning to run a Bontrager rear light, the integrated Blendr mount eliminates the need for a separate strap-on mount — factor that into total cost and setup convenience.

Key Features

WaveCel Impact Technology: WaveCel is a flex-and-absorb material that lines the inside of the helmet and is exclusive to Trek and Bontrager helmets. It's engineered to manage both direct linear impact forces and the rotational energy that can occur in angled impacts — a known limitation of standard EPS foam construction. This is the core reason this helmet earns a different category of protection than most commuter options.

BOA® Fit System: A single dial at the rear of the helmet lets you tighten or loosen fit with one hand while wearing gloves or carrying gear. The Charge uses this system across all sizes, which makes repeatable, secure fit easy to dial in without stopping to fiddle with straps.

Fidlock Magnetic Buckle: The chin strap fastens via a Fidlock magnetic buckle — a snap-together system that clicks securely without the two-handed threading of traditional buckles. It's a small detail that adds up quickly on daily commutes.

Rear Blendr Mount: The integrated Blendr mount on the back of the helmet is designed specifically for Bontrager light accessories, allowing a light to attach directly to the helmet rather than the seatpost or rack — useful for visibility when the bike is parked or when your back end is obscured.

NTA 8776 / S-EPAC Certification: This certification is the recognized safety standard for e-bike helmets in markets where speed pedelec use is regulated. It confirms the helmet has been tested for the higher-speed impact scenarios associated with e-bike riding.

Crash Replacement Guarantee: Trek provides a free helmet replacement within one year of a crash. Given the cost of WaveCel-equipped helmets, this is meaningful real-world value.

Rider Intent Summary

  • Biggest strengths: WaveCel rotational and linear impact protection; NTA 8776 e-bike certification; fast, one-handed fit adjustments via BOA® and Fidlock
  • Tradeoffs: Heavier and more structured than a minimal road or XC helmet; WaveCel-equipped helmets typically carry a higher price point than standard foam alternatives
  • What makes it different: One of the few commuter helmets combining WaveCel technology with S-EPAC certification — it addresses protection at both the material and standards level, not just aesthetics

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
