About The Zipp 303 SW Tubeless Disc Brake Carbon Rear Wheel

The Zipp 303 SW Tubeless Disc Brake Carbon Rear Wheel is a 40mm-deep hookless carbon rear wheel for disc-brake road and multi-surface bikes, built around wide tires — the rim is optimized for 30 to 35mm tires and accepts up to 44c. This listing is the Shimano HG driver body version. If you run a SRAM XDR cassette, you need the XDR version of this wheel instead.

The rim is where the performance comes from. A 25mm internal width lets a 30mm-plus tire hold its designed shape at low pressure, producing a larger contact patch, better grip on wet or loose surfaces, and less rolling resistance than a narrow rim at high pressure. The symmetrical 40mm profile keeps crosswind behavior predictable rather than twitchy, and the 286lb / 130kg maximum system weight is generous for a carbon road wheel — higher than several more expensive wheels in Zipp's own range. Claimed weight is 805g.

Who It's For

  • Riders on Shimano HG cassettes — this is the Shimano HG driver version, not XDR
  • Road and all-road riders running 30 to 35mm tires who want carbon depth with real tire clearance
  • Heavier riders or loaded setups, given the 286lb / 130kg system weight allowance
  • Consider something else if: you run a SRAM XDR cassette (order the XDR version), you race on 25 to 28mm tires, you need pressure above 73psi, or you want a hooked rim with unrestricted tire choice

What to Look For

  • Driver body first. Shimano HG and SRAM XDR are not interchangeable, and both versions of this wheel carry the same price. Check the cassette on your bike before ordering.
  • Hookless sets hard limits. ISO/TSS-compatible tires only, with a 73psi / 5.0bar ceiling. Tube or sealant both work, but tire selection is not open-ended.
  • Match tire width to intent. 30 to 35mm is the design band; going wider toward 44c trades speed for comfort and grip on rough roads and light gravel.

Key Features

Rim: 40mm-deep hookless carbon, 25mm internal width, symmetrical profile, UD fiber with adhesive decals. The internal width is the spec that matters most here — it is what makes low-pressure ride quality work instead of leaving a wide tire pinched into the wrong shape.

Hub and driver: ZR1 disc-brake hubset with custom stainless steel 61903 bearings and a Shimano HG driver body. Stainless bearings hold up better than standard steel through wet-weather miles, and 61903 is a standard size, so replacements are not proprietary.

Brake interface: Center Lock disc, with the lockring included. One less part to source at install.

Tire compatibility: 700c, ISO/TSS-compatible tubeless tires, 30 to 44c, run with sealant or a tube. Zipp cites TSE for improved efficiency and reduced rolling resistance across the wheel-and-tire system.

Build detail and connectivity: The rim is compatible with the Zipp AXS Wheel Sensor for connected tire pressure monitoring, which works independently of your drivetrain. Spoke lengths are 272/274mm drive side and 276mm non-drive side. Backed by a lifetime warranty.

Rider Intent Summary

  • Biggest strengths: 25mm internal width at 40mm depth, a high 286lb/130kg system weight limit, serviceable stainless bearings, tire range to 44c, and a lifetime warranty.
  • Tradeoffs: Optimized for 30mm-plus tires, capped at 73psi, restricted to ISO/TSS-compatible tires, and Shimano HG only.
  • What makes it different: A wide, low-pressure-focused rim with an unusually high system weight allowance — this is the durable, all-surface end of Zipp's carbon road range rather than the lightest.

Victory's Take

At Victory Bicycle Studio we recommend the 303 SW to riders whose road bike does double duty on rough pavement and light gravel, and to riders who need a higher weight allowance than most carbon wheels offer — bring us your cassette and current tires and we will confirm this is the right version before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
