About The Zipp 454 NSW Tubeless Disc-brake Carbon Front Bicycle Wheel

Zipp's 454 NSW Tubeless Disc-brake Carbon Front Wheel is a 700c deep-section carbon road race wheel. Its Sawtooth rim varies in depth between 53mm and 58mm, and Zipp says it is its most aerodynamic and stable wheel. Instead of a constant-depth profile, the rim has Hyperfoil nodes and a HexFin ABLC dimple pattern. Both are meant to cut drag and keep the front end steady in crosswinds. For a front wheel that matters most, because crosswind stability affects steering. This wheel is built for road racing, fast group rides, and aero-focused road bikes where both speed and handling count.

The rim is hookless (Tubeless Straight Side), with a 23mm internal width and a 28mm maximum outside width. It works with ISO/TSS-compatible tubeless tires from 28c to 35c, run with sealant or a tube. Zipp recommends a 28mm tire for the best mix of aerodynamics and rolling resistance. The wheel is part of Zipp's Total System Efficiency approach, which uses wider rims and lower tire pressures to cut rolling resistance and vibration losses. It rolls on the ZR1 SL hub with hybrid ceramic bearings, and that hub is 30 g lighter than the one in earlier NSW wheels.

Who It's For
  • Road racers and fast group riders who want a deep, wind-stable carbon front wheel
  • Riders on disc-brake road bikes with Center Lock rotors
  • Riders upgrading or replacing just the front wheel (this is sold as a front wheel only)
  • Riders who run or plan to switch to tubeless tires 28c or wider
  • Not ideal for riders who need hooked rims for their current tires, riders who prefer tires narrower than 28c, or anyone above the 115 kg system weight limit
What to Look For
  • Tire compatibility: Hookless rims need ISO/TSS-approved tubeless tires, and max pressure is 73 psi (5.0 bar). Make sure your tire choice and pressure habits fit before you buy.
  • Frame and fork clearance: A 28mm tire on a 23mm internal rim measures wider than its label. Check fork clearance, especially if you plan to go above 28c.
  • System weight: The limit is 253 lbs / 115 kg for rider, bike, and gear combined.
Key Features

Sawtooth rim with Hyperfoil nodes. The rim's depth rises and falls between 53mm and 58mm. That changes how air moves across the rim compared with a constant-depth profile. Zipp designed the shape for aero efficiency and crosswind stability. On a front wheel, that stability is what lets a rider use a deep rim without fighting the bars on gusty days. The HexFin ABLC dimple pattern adds to the same aero goal.

Hookless tubeless construction. Without hooks, the tire sits flush with the rim wall, so the transition between tire and rim is smoother and more aero. Zipp says hookless rims also spread resin more efficiently, which makes them lighter and stronger. The symmetrical rim profile suits a front wheel, where both sides are laced the same way.

ZR1 SL hub. The front hub uses custom hybrid ceramic 61803 bearings and has a Center Lock rotor interface, with the lockring included. It ships with 12mm end caps for thru-axle forks.

Finish. The rim is UD carbon fiber, and the graphics are printed directly onto it with Zipp's ImPress technology instead of decals.

Rider Intent Summary
  • Biggest strengths: Wind-stable deep-section aero rim, wide hookless tubeless design, ceramic-bearing ZR1 SL hub
  • Tradeoffs: Requires ISO/TSS tubeless tires; 73 psi pressure ceiling; tires 28c and wider only; front wheel sold alone
  • What makes it different: The 53–58mm Sawtooth rim with Hyperfoil nodes varies in depth for crosswind stability, where most deep carbon wheels use a uniform profile
Victory's Take

At Victory Bicycle Studio, we think the 454 NSW front makes sense for riders who want a deep aero front end without the twitchy steering that often comes with one. Before installing it, we'll confirm your tire choice and fork clearance on your bike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free shipping?

We do offer free shipping on non-bike orders over $100. We do not offer free shipping for bicycles unless it is a one time promotion. Generally, bike shipping will cost $150 and that covers just the shipping of the bike with no assembly. If you were to bring that bike to your local mechanic or bike store, you would pay them their assembly fee. If you choose our Professional Assembly option for $200, our service technicians would assemble the bike before shipping and then re-pack the bike safely for transit. When you receive the bike you would attach the front wheel, attach the seatpost/saddle, and raise the handlebars and clamp them. Those three items do have to be detached to minimize or eliminate the chance of damage in transit.

How much does shipping cost?

For orders of parts, accessories, apparel, etc. on orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of $9.99. Regular bike shipping without assembly is $150, bike shipping with Professional Assembly is an additional $200 (so $350 in total which includes the $150 of regular shipping). Our White Glove Delivery option is $699 and that will cover the assembly of the bike and our White Glove Delivery partner delivering your dream bike to your front door, ready to ride!

How can I track my order?

When you place your online order, you will receive an instantaneous email update with your order number and order details, and shortly after, you will receive a follow up order email with the tracking number for your order.  If you still need assistance with your order, feel free to email us at online@victorybicyclestudio.com and we will respond asap.
